In between takes of her Perfect Issue 11 cover shoot with Daniel Jackson and Katie Grand, we caught up with CHANEL’s newly announced Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu ambassador and stadium-filling idol Gracie Abrams. Amid conversations about her new album, Daughter From Hell, musical inspirations and London pubs, she gave us a glimpse into the inspiration behind her debut campaign for the fragrance.

“Being part of this new chapter of Coco Mademoiselle is pretty surreal. I grew up watching the women who came before me, like Keira [Knightley], and the short films she did when she was the face of the fragrance. I remember feeling so lit up watching her in the nude catsuit, getting on the motorbike and racing off into the night. I was trying to emulate my own version of escaping in the way she did.”

Following in the footsteps of fragrance icons Kate Moss and Keira Knightley, Gracie brings her own energy to Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu. Directed by Joe Wright, her debut campaign film follows her escape from the paparazzi into the freedom of a Parisian night out, from dancing on café tables to running barefoot through the rain. Set to Candi Staton’s Young Hearts Run Free, remixed by Breakbot, it captures the spirit of spontaneity and self-expression at the heart of the fragrance.

For Gracie, it’s a full-circle moment, stepping into a campaign she grew up watching and adding a new chapter to her own relationship with the house. “I love working with Chanel, so to add to our history together means a lot.”
