‘The Freight Train Shakes the House at Night’: Discover Matty Bovan’s David Lynch inspired FW25 .

“I feel this collection shows me investigating my love of print, romantic silhouettes, women, storytelling and my love affair with craft, exploring storytelling even further than before by shooting characters, and styling like I was working on characters in a movie, which was reinvigorated me. Working with people solely in Yorkshire felt very uplifting and made me proud of my roots, pushing it beyond what you’d expect.”

Inspired by late, pioneering director David Lynch’s rich female multilayered, nuanced character studies Matty Bovan builds his usual fantastical world, except this time it has a slightly dark twist running through it. "A fantasy of watching fragmented clips of Dynasty on TV whilst David Lynch’s Twin Peaks plays simultaneously.”

“With his passing, like many others, I revisited his films whilst staring this collecton and they have seeped into it in abstract ways. Having only ever seen fragments of Dynasty, I watched more for research, amazed by the scale and proportions of the costumes, and the fine line it treads between classy and camp.”

The lookbook, shot by George Hutton stars Matty’s mum modelling his clothes for the first time. The film, directed by Matty and shot by Christine Ratcliff is a fragmented glimpse at Matty’s FW25 characters.

"The film is collaged and moody; a cacophony of colour, and texture, the women exploring different rooms of the house, depicting a different story behind closed doors. The soundscape also mirrors this frantic, multilayered story arc, as well as smudged 'Strawberry Shock' insanely saturated red lip colour by Lisa Eldrige, bows, explosive textiles, taffeta and GINA shoes."
