Kim Kardashian’s day out in Dalston with Whitaker Malem.

Ever wondered what Kim Kardashian would get up to in Dalston? A Met Gala fitting with Whitaker Malem, of course. We caught up with Whitaker Malem to go behind the scenes of Kim Kardashian’s 2026 Met Gala look, created by Allen Jones and Whitaker Malem.

WM: “Kim Kardashian reached out to us RE: her Met Gala costume via Katie Grand, who had commissioned an Allen Jones themed shoot from Nadia Lee Cohen for Perfect; Kim saw & liked the shoot, an homage to Allen’s work featuring Whitaker Malem pieces.”

WM: “Kim made herself super-available to us and unusually we had direct contact with her from the start – which was very helpful. After some discussion Kim came over to Allen’s studio in Oxfordshire, to meet with us all, try on various pieces and establish what the look might actually be.”

WM: “Doing this it became apparent that Kim’s torso curves & silhouette were remarkably close to Allen’s breastplate sculptures, which were never really intended to be worn. We’d never seen an Allen Jones breastplate fit anyone as well as Kim!

WM: “When we had cast the breastplate, over-sculpted by hand & had it painted, with just a week remaining, Kim came to our studio in Dalston for one final fitting.”

WM: “After much discussion we circled back to the first leather we had considered for the project…We were very keen for Allen [Jones] to paint directly on the piece from the start. The whole look had to be turned around in 3 weeks!”

WM: “We have loved working on this project together with Kim and Allen... Creating Kim’s Met Gala ‘Fashion is Art’ costume with Allen has been a new whirlwind experience for us all!”
