Matt Healy’s latest editorial explores the beauty of forgotten places.

I’d love to say there’s some big concept behind this shoot, but it’s actually just what I see on my drive home from Tottenham to Essex every month or so, visiting family and friends. I kept noticing little stretches of road, walkways and underpasses, thinking that one day I could build a story around them.

I approached Gerry with the idea of shooting alongside a motorway, or at least a busy road, broken up by a series of studio images. At that point, there wasn’t much direction beyond the locations, a few styling ideas and the thought of reaching out to Fran Summers to see if she’d be interested in collaborating.

I imagined Fran simply existing in these places, hanging out in the way my friends and I used to when we were younger. Those forgotten corners where you could disappear for a while, hide away from the world and have a place of your own.

We originally shot this as a personal project, something to keep our minds ticking over during the quiet end of summer. Luckily it ended up finding a home at Perfect.

A collection of memories and beautiful moments.
