#PerfectDiaries: Sydney Lima captures her DJ appearance at Chanel’s BAFTA after-party.

If you are looking for the ultimate master of all trades, Sydney Lima has you covered. From her journalistic approach and background, the writer, model and documentary-maker has dived into the world of music, honing in on her DJ skills during London’s glamorous BAFTA weekend of awards, parties, and star-studded moments.

Becoming one of the main DJs at Chanel’s BAFTA after-party, Lima takes us on her big day - getting ready, exploring the BAFTA press junket, snapping some moments at the main celebrations, and preparing for her DJ slot by clutching onto her USB for dear life. In her latest instalment of #PerfectDiaries, she takes us into her day-to-night engagements for BAFTA weekend, and wonders upon the confusing dynamics of the BAFTA ceremony.

Special thank you to Chanel, Chanel Beauty, Sebastian Barros and The London Edition.

16:00: It’s the 17th February, the night before BAFTA and I’m on my way to The London Edition Hotel to get ready with Chanel to DJ Charles Finch’s prolific party. Two failed trips out the door, first without USB’s then without headphones, I’m off to a terrible start.

After checking in at Edition, make up artist Margo Holder quickly becomes my new favourite person. We spend about an hour discussing make up references, committing to them with conviction then drastically u-turning, about several times. In hindsight, I think we just wanted to spend more time together.

17:00: The man, the myth, the legend; photographer Seb Barros and I on the prowl. It was extremely cold and it started to rain and tourists looked on in horror as I paraded around bare legged.

20:00 I spend another hour after Margo and Seb leave taking selfies in the Edition hotel room’s mirror. I download 4 remixes of Madonna’s Borderline and decide it’s time to leave.

20:30: First off I head to an Oscar’s party. I’m a +1 and everyone else is nominated and badged. There seems to be a badge hierarchy, those that are nominated have a gold badge and those that are invited have a bog-standard plain badge. I discuss this for a bit with some other unbadged attendees, a long with the fact 50% of the room have the same thick rimmed spectacles, then decide to leave for the next stop on the BNO.

20:45: Composers Daniel Pemberton and Ludwig Göransson fight it out at the BAFTA nominees party whilst I panic about what on earth I’m going to DJ at the Chanel party. I suggest that Pemberton and I go B2B. He does not succumb.

21:30: Here’s my friend, actress Lauren Lyle looking very cute at the party. Just as I was getting into the swing of things, I remember I actually have a job to do and so I french exit, USB’s in hand.

22:00: Panicking I am late

02:00: Success! Chanel make up, outfit and jewellery still intact and I’m at the party djing for the BAFTA nominees. But the night is quickly over and I only got to play 1 of my 4 Madonna remixes. Til next time!
